A Thriving Community of Learning and Belonging

As we move through the middle of Term 3, there is an unmistakable sense of energy around the College. The calendar has been full, the pace has been fast, and yet when I pause to reflect, I am reminded that busyness is often a sign of a thriving learning community. Every event, performance, lesson, assessment, conversation and achievement reflects a community alive with purpose, growth and opportunity.

Principal Awards

One of the great privileges of my role is celebrating students who consistently demonstrate our College Values. Earlier this term, we recognised many students through our Principal’s Awards, acknowledging those whose daily choices reflect Courage, Compassion, Curiosity, Collaboration and Craftsmanship. While academic achievement is important, it is equally encouraging to celebrate the character, kindness and positive influence students bring to our community each day.

2027 Student Leaders

It has also been wonderful to formally commission our new Senior Student Leadership Team. Our College Captains and Prefects have accepted the responsibility of serving their peers and helping shape the culture of the College. Leadership at OPAC is not about status or privilege; it is about influence, service and stewardship. I look forward to seeing how these students encourage others, model our values and strengthen our community over the coming year.

Multicultural Day

A highlight of the term has been our Multicultural Day, which celebrated the rich diversity within our College community. Students proudly wore traditional dress and national sporting jerseys, creating countless opportunities to share stories of family heritage, culture and traditions. It was a powerful reminder that every student brings a unique perspective and experience to our community.

The celebrations culminated in OPACVision, where Senior School students showcased their cultural backgrounds through music, dance and creative expression. We were also delighted by a special performance from our visitors from Tachibana High School in Japan, adding an international dimension to the event. Beyond the entertainment, occasions such as these play an important role in fostering a genuine sense of belonging. In a large and growing school, one of our highest priorities is ensuring that every student feels known, valued and cared for. We want every young person to know that they are seen, that they matter and that they belong.

Persistence in difficulty

Alongside these celebrations, significant academic endeavour has continued across the College. For many students, particularly those in the senior years, this term has involved assessments, examinations and the increasing challenges that accompany academic growth. Learning is not always easy. In fact, meaningful learning often requires challenge, persistence and resilience.

In a recent Senior School Assembly, I spoke about the importance of recognising that struggling with difficult learning does not mean a student is failing. More often, it means they are stretching themselves, growing and developing new capabilities. We want our students to embrace challenge, persevere through setbacks, seek support when needed and continue striving for improvement. The ability to remain engaged when learning feels difficult is one of the most valuable attributes young people can develop.

Thankfulness for OPAC

As students strive towards their goals, I remain deeply grateful for the extraordinary commitment of our staff. Every day, teachers, support staff and leaders create vibrant learning environments where students can flourish. Through thoughtful lesson design, quality feedback, pastoral care and a relentless commitment to improvement, they inspire students to keep growing and pursuing their personal best. Great learning does not happen by accident. It is cultivated by dedicated professionals who care deeply for their students and are passionate about helping every child take the next step in their learning journey.

The breadth of opportunities available to students at OPAC is one of the great strengths of our College. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, on the stage, through service, leadership or faith formation, students are encouraged to discover their gifts, develop their talents and pursue excellence in all they do.

This is the OPAC Difference: a holistic Christian education that seeks to shape not only what students know, but who they become. Our commitment is that every student will be known, cared for and inspired to become the person God has created them to be.

“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Romans 12:4-5

God bless,

Mrs Naomi Wilkins
