Listening to Our Students

At OPAC, part of our mission is to be a vibrant learning community where every member is known and cared for. This commitment sits at the heart of everything we do, especially when it comes to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students.

As part of our ongoing work in response to the Child Safe Standards set by the Office of the Children’s Guardian, we are excited to announce the launch of a new Student Wellbeing Portal. This initiative is a key outcome of our Child Safety Improvement Plan and reflects our proactive approach to understanding and supporting the mental health needs of our young people.

The Student Wellbeing Portal is a platform that empowers students by giving them access to information about a range of wellbeing concerns and linking them directly to relevant support services and providers. This helps equip students to better understand their own mental health and take positive steps towards seeking help when needed.

A key component of this initiative is our adoption of My Mind Check—a student wellbeing check-in tool developed by youth mental health experts and supported by the Australian Government. Selected year levels will be invited to take part in short, supervised check-ins using age-appropriate questions. These check-ins are entirely voluntary and designed to give students a voice in how they’re feeling, helping to build their awareness and literacy around mental health.

Importantly, the information provided will be securely managed and only accessible to trained school staff who can provide appropriate follow-up and support. While it is not a clinical tool, My Mind Check offers us valuable insight into both individual and whole-school wellbeing, helping us to care more effectively for each student. To learn more about My Mind Check, visit mymindcheck.org.au or watch the below video.

Through these initiatives, we are strengthening our whole-school approach to wellbeing and reinforcing our culture of care. Most importantly, we are listening—because we want to hear from our students and give them a genuine voice in conversations about their mental health and wellbeing.

Thank you for partnering with us in building a community where every student is safe, supported, and set up to flourish.

Thanksgiving Service
We also warmly invite all families to join us for our Thanksgiving Service and Building Opening next Friday, 30 May. We are honoured to welcome Deputy Premier Prue Car and Bishop Peter Lin as our special guests for this important occasion. It will be a time of celebration and thankfulness as we reflect on how far our College has come since opening in 2012, and give thanks for the abundant resources and facilities we have been blessed with. We look forward to sharing this milestone moment with our College community.

God bless,

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
