Music – T3 W2 2025

Music Lit Up Lunchtimes This Week!

This week, lunchtimes were filled with music as students enjoyed performances and workshops showcasing our school’s talent. On Monday, the Senior Stage Band delivered a lively set of jazz and contemporary pieces. Wednesday featured impressive HSC repertoire from our Year 12 Music 1 and Music 2 students, demonstrating their skill and hard work. The week wrapped up with an open choir workshop on Thursday, where students came together for a fun and inclusive singing session. Thanks to all who performed, participated, and supported these events! A special thanks to Lily F for her organisation.

Young Composers

Last term, Stage 5 Music students took on the demanding challenge of Baroque composition through the study of species counterpoint. Species 3 counterpoint, with its four notes against one structure, pushes students to balance rhythmic movement with strict harmonic control—a true test of musical skill.

To maintain academic integrity in the age of AI, students completed this composition task by hand under timed classroom conditions. Despite these constraints, the standard of work was impressively high. Alex D’s piece stood out for its exceptional complexity and creativity: a three-part composition entirely in Species 3 counterpoint, carefully scored to include both B♭ and E♭ transposing instruments. The handwritten score demonstrated not only technical mastery but also an emerging personal style.

Congratulations to all Stage 5 composers for their focus, discipline, and musical growth throughout this rigorous task.

God bless,
