Building Bridges and Playgrounds: Year 6 and Kindergarten Collaborate

Over the past few weeks, our Year 6 students and Kindergarten learners have embarked on an exciting joint project: designing a new playspace for our school. The initiative combined creativity, problem-solving, and real-world mathematics, fostering collaboration across year levels.

The project began with brainstorming sessions where Kindergarten students shared their ideas for a fun and safe play area. Year 6 students then took on the challenge of turning these imaginative concepts into practical designs. They considered factors such as space, safety, and accessibility, ensuring the playspace would be enjoyable for all.

But the learning didn’t stop there – Year 6 students worked within a budget, calculating the cost of materials and exploring ways to make smart financial decisions. They compared prices, prioritised essential features, and even discussed sustainability -skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

The highlight of the project was when these creative and carefully planned designs were presented to Mrs Wilkins and myself. We were impressed by the students’ ability to combine imaginative ideas with practical solutions, and their confidence in explaining their choices.

Throughout the process, our Year 6 students learned the value of teamwork and communication, as they experienced the responsibility of planning and budgeting for a real-world project.

We are proud of the creativity and collaboration shown by our students. This project not only strengthens connections between year levels but also demonstrates how learning can be meaningful, practical, and fun.

As we approach the final weeks of Term 4, there are a number of events coming up. Next week we have our annual OPAC Christmas Concert (week 7),  Year 6 Dinner (week 8) and our Celebration Assemblies (week 9). It will certainly be a busy end to the term!

God bless,

A Splash of Colour and Community Spirit

Last Friday, the Junior School came together for the much-anticipated Colour Fun Run. It was a joyful day filled with energy, laughter and, of course, plenty of colour.

Thanks to the incredible support of our families, the event raised over $44,000 for the Parents and Friends Association. This generosity is already making a difference. New College BBQs are on their way, and early conversations have begun about future upgrades to our library and playground spaces.

We are grateful to every family who supported this initiative and to the many hands who helped make the day possible. Special thanks to the Parents and Friends Association, OSHClub, and the Oran Park Fire Brigade for volunteering their time and bringing extra fun to the event.

If your child raised enough to select a prize, those orders have been placed. If a prize wasn’t selected before the deadline, either one was chosen on your behalf or we spoke directly with your child. We will share more information about prize collection as soon as we receive a delivery date.

As a thank you, the Parents and Friends Association is providing a Gelato Day for the whole College on the last day of school (10 December). Junior School students will each enjoy a scoop in class, while Senior School students will use the event as a fundraiser for one of the many charities they are supporting, with gelato available for a gold coin donation.

Thank you again for your support.
