Duke of Ed Students Embrace the Challenge
The Duke of Edinburgh Award program continues to be a powerful opportunity for students to challenge themselves, build resilience, and discover new passions. Today’s spotlight is focusing on Year 9 student Ethan S, who is currently working toward completing his Bronze Award.

For his Physical Recreation, Ethan chose the unique and fast-growing sport of disc golf. By setting regular goals and pushing to beat his personal best every fortnight, he has shown dedication and perseverance. In the Skills section, Ethan has been developing his musical talents through the trombone. He is a valued member of the Intermediate Stage Band and Senior Concert Band, but also receives private tuition to refine his skills. This consistent practice has helped him grow in confidence and musicianship, even though he has only been learning for a just over a year.
As part of his Voluntary Service, Ethan has committed his time to his local church, where he is learning how to operate the lighting system during Friday night services. This hands-on role as part of the Tech crew has not only taught him valuable technical skills but also deepened his faith and strengthened his sense of community.
Reflecting on his experiences so far, Ethan shared:
“Duke of Ed has been a wonderful experience, not only the great hike and the wonderful views that we had on camp, but the people I got to meet and the things I got to learn. From serving as part of the Tech crew at my church every Friday night, I got to learn how to work the lighting and even more so, I got to spend more time with God. Duke of Ed also served as a motivator to help me continually practise my skills and studies, like playing the trombone or how trying to beat my pb on a disc golf course every fortnight. So far, I’ve loved being involved in Duke of Ed and I look forward to taking on the next level in the coming years.”
Ethan’s story is an inspiring example of how the Duke of Edinburgh Award fosters personal growth, resilience, and community spirit. We congratulate him on his outstanding progress and can’t wait to see where his journey leads next.
God bless,
Mr Rohan Miller
