Raising Young People of Character and Purpose
Character on the Field: Oz-Tag Gala Day Reflects Our Culture
At the recent Oz-Tag Gala Day, our students didn’t just represent the College with skill and effort — they displayed the kind of character that makes us proud.
Speaking with Mr Chris Cranston, our Sports Coordinator, it was clear that what stood out most was not just the results, but how our students carried themselves. “The referees and organisers made a point of saying how respectful and well-mannered our students were,” he shared. “They noticed how we looked after the spaces we used and how our students interacted with them and each other.”
This honourable behaviour extended to every corner of the event. While some other schools struggled with team dynamics — players swearing, blaming, and breaking down — our teams stood out for the way they lifted each other up. “Our students noticed it too,” said Mr Cranston. “They could see the contrast. Our coaches always tell the players: never take it out on each other — always keep your head up.”
Even in tough games, our students made a point of shaking hands and showing respect to their opponents. “We always made that move, win or lose. That’s who we are,” he added.
Days like this highlight what we value most at the College: not just performance, but character. In sport — as in life — we want our students to be people of integrity, who encourage others, and choose what is right, even when it’s hard.
Careers Come to the Classroom: Industry Roundtables for Year 11 and 12
This week, our senior students were given a unique opportunity to explore the world beyond school, as part of a careers event led by the National Industry-Education Partnerships (NIEP). Representatives from a wide range of industries visited the College, including the fire brigade, aviation, dental health, trades, childcare, aged care, printing, and more.
In a dynamic “roundtable” format, students remained seated while employers rotated around the room, spending ten minutes at each table. This structure allowed for deeper conversations, giving students insight into different careers, the journeys of the professionals, and possible pathways into each industry – including apprenticeships, traineeships, university, and on-the-job training.
Importantly, students heard from both male and female professionals across traditionally gendered roles, helping to challenge stereotypes and broaden thinking. Many guests brought handouts and spoke about opportunities for work experience or future employment.
For Year 11 and 12 students, many of whom are still considering their next steps, this was an invaluable chance to engage with real people in real jobs – and to start shaping their own career journey with purpose and clarity.
We thank NIEP and our generous industry guests for investing in the futures of our students. We also recognise the effort of Mr Little, our Careers Advisor, for providing many eye-opening opportunities for our students over the course of OPAC Careers Week.
God bless,
Mr Steve Owen

OPAC Volleyball Squad Wins Best Sports Team Award
I’m thrilled to share that our Volleyball Squad was named Best Sports Team at the recent Campbelltown Youth Awards for Excellence.
Out of over 500 nominees and 127 finalists across a range of categories, our squad was recognised for their outstanding achievements, teamwork, and sportsmanship. It was a proud moment to see our students accept the award in front of local dignitaries and a packed audience.
Congratulations to every squad member on this well-deserved recognition!
The 15&U team narrowly missed a place in the semi-finals but finished strong by winning their 5th place play-off—an impressive achievement that highlights their potential and cohesion as a team. Our Open team had a phenomenal run, advancing to the Grand Final after a dominant performance in their pool games. In a thrilling and hard-fought final, they went down 2 sets to 1 against a strong St George Christian School side.
Congratulations to all players for their effort, determination, and conduct on and off the court. A heartfelt thank you to Mr Irwin for his dedication, leadership, and unwavering support of both teams.
