Understanding Your Child’s Semester Report and Celebrating Growth
As we approach the end of the semester, Junior School teachers are carefully preparing student reports to provide families with a clear picture of each child’s learning journey so far this year. Throughout each semester, teachers gather a range of evidence to understand how students are progressing. This includes classroom observations, student work samples, assessment tasks and projects, and participation in discussions and activities.
Understanding How Student Progress Is Measured
This ongoing process allows teachers to build a comprehensive understanding of each student’s strengths, areas for development, and overall growth over time. This means that your child’s report does not reflect their performance on a single test.
In NSW primary schools, reports use a standard scale to indicate achievement against stage expectations. The categories are as follows:
- A or a B indicates that your child is working above expected grade level in that particular area
- C indicates that your child is achieving at the expected grade level
- D indicates that they are working towards the expected grade level
- E indicates that they are below the expected grade level in that area
It is important to note that a C grade reflects solid, expected achievement for a student at their stage of learning. A D grade means the student is still developing their skills and is working towards meeting stage expectations, with continued support from school and home.
When you receive your child’s report, I encourage you to sit down and read through it together with your child, celebrate successes and areas of improvement, highlight teacher comments that show growth, effort, and positive learning behaviours, and talk about goals for the next semester.
Focusing on progress and encouragement helps build confidence and supports a positive attitude towards learning.

Recent Highlights: Year 4 and Year 6 Camps
We have had a very exciting two weeks as Year 4 and Year 6 have been on camp. Last week Year 4 spent some time on the wild side at Taronga Zoo and were able to see some lions and tigers up close. Year 6 have just returned from Canberra, where they explored the practical aspects of democracy and learned about the involvement and impact of Australian service men and women in overseas conflict. Camp is always a fabulous opportunity to enrich the learning experiences of our students, and is an integral part of our curriculum.

Share Student Achievements

CSSA Cross Country
On Friday 29 May, a number of our Junior School students represented Oran Park Anglican College at the CSSA Cross Country. Students competed with great determination and should be commended for the way they represented the College with pride throughout the day.
It was wonderful to see our students giving their best effort, supporting one another, and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship. A special congratulations to Oliver and Lucas, who have qualified for the NSWCIS Primary Cross Country Championships. We wish both students all the very best as they represent the College at this next level.
Student Achievement – Emmy
Congratulations to Emmy, who has been selected to represent CIS in Netball and will be participating in the NSWPSSA Netball Championships from Wednesday 29 July to Friday 31 July. This is an outstanding achievement and a wonderful recognition of Emmy’s skill, commitment, and dedication to her sport.
We are very proud of Emmy and wish her all the best as she represents CIS and Oran Park Anglican College at this exciting level of competition.
